Call For Artists

The Golden Triangle Museum District is seeking artists to participate in our 4th annual Denver Plein Air Arts Festival. Artists are invited to paint on location in the Golden Triangle on one or more days from August 14 through September 14.

Artists may submit one or more pieces up to 30" x 40" on canvas/board/panel or watercolor paper for official festival stamping between August 14- September 14 at stamping locations including the Byers-Evans House Museum, Native American Trading Company and Gallery 1261.

Participating in the event from August 14 - September 14 is free and open to all artists and all media. Artists may paint at any location within the boundaries of the golden triangle (between Speer, Colfax and Lincoln). The following venues have given permission to artists to paint on their grounds: Denver Art Museum's Acoma Plaza and Martin Plaza, Byers-Evans House Museum and more.

Artists have the option of entering one or more pieces (no limit) completed during the event into the juried competition ($10 per entry). Judged by Jill Rosentrater, director of Art in Public Places with the Colorado Council of Arts, Rose Fredrick, writer and curator of Coors Western Art Exhibit and Dean Sobel, director of the Clyfford Still Museum. Cash and prizes will be awarded. Accepted works will be exhibited at The Denver Public Library, 7th floor from Nov - Dec 31, 2010. An opening reception will be held in early November.

Two categories, professional and emerging, will be featured in the juried competition. Participants wishing to enter the juried contest should email images between September 1 - 19 to info@gtmd.org. Applicants will be charged a $10 entry fee per piece, payable via check or credit card.

*Group 1 will paint from 8 am - noon. Lunch will be served for both grups between noon and one. Group 2 will paint from 1 pm - 5 pm.

**Although this is the formal day for artists to gather and paint, you are welcome to submit any paintings created on the 16th Street Mall from Aug 14 - Sep 14. We ask that you observe the Rules and Regulations for Entertainers at all times while painting on the 16th Street Mall.

Aug 25th Grant-Humphreys Mansion Paint Out
  This architectural gem is one of Denver’s most beautiful sites. “The Grants' Beaux- Arts mansion is an exuberant mixture of elements, combining a brick facade with terra cotta balustrades, projecting balconies and 20 foot columns.” A highlighted spot for many corporate and private events, this mansion will be one of our most popular paint out locations!

Sep 4th 13th Avenue of the Arts Paint Out
  13th Avenue of the Arts is one Denver's most artistically and architecturally rich areas. Historical landmarks, museums, and houses are just a few subjects in the area. Artists will have the option to paint places like the Byers-Evans House Museum, the Molly Brown House, and the Kirkland Museum along with the darting corners of the DAM and the funky boxes of the Denver Public Library. The Acoma Plaza is one of Denver's most visited plazas and all artists will have the chance to make their own interpretation of it!

Sep 7th Colorado Governor's Residence Paint Out
  This location is one of DPAAF’s most prestigious spots. Two sessions will be held with space limited to 50 artists per session. Group 1 will paint from 8 am - noon. Lunch will be served for both grups between noon and one. Group 2 will paint from 1 pm - 5 pm. We are also planning on a private exhibition inside the mansion sometime in early 2011! Don’t miss this great opportunity to paint one of the most beautiful mansions in Colorado!

Sep 13th 16th Street Mall Paint Out
  Take in all the hustle and bustle of the most popular street in Denver. Tourists, locals, and downtown business commuters walk the pedestrian only street lined with shops, restaurants and specialty stores. There will be plenty of scenic spots to paint one of Denver’s most traveled and visited street!

Sep 14th State Capital / Civic Center Park Paint Out
  This area is one of Denver’s most celebrated areas. The classical architecture of the Park along with the famous Golden Domed Capital creates the most well known Denver landscape! This prized spot is one of the most high traffic areas as well as the prime location for all festivals and events in Denver. (Taste of Colorado, Gay Pride Day, etc) A must do for all artists looking to capture Denver!
